The Big Picture

Jacobstown Baptist Church is seeking a Youth Pastor who is called to shepherd, teach, and lead the children and youth in the body of Christ.

The Church

We are the “Little Church on the Top of the Hill” in Wrightstown NJ. We purpose to meet together to prayerfully equip and encourage believers of Jesus Christ, through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word, to go and share Christ faithfully, while being conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ.

The Candidate

This position is for a man called to shepherd, teach, and lead the children and youth in the body of Christ. The main goal of a man in this position is to disciple the children and youth by being a representative voice and presence of God. He is seen as part of the pastoral staff and has a greater reach of ministry than simply the children and youth. His role is to help develop the vision and direction of the church alongside the other pastors and to make sure that the youth and children play an important role in that vision.

The Duties
A person in this position would be expected to do the following in collaboration with the pastors and church leadership:

–  Lead weekly youth group meetings by planning games/activities and teaching for middle school to high school teenagers

–  Attend regular church events (eg. Awana, prayer nights) as part of the congregation and assist where needed

–  Plan events that promote outreach, fellowship, and ministry opportunities that work in conjunction with normal youth group/church times. Events to be included would be:

     –  An annual outreach activity planned in close coordination with the Sr. Pastor

     –  Larger youth event outings for fun and outreach at least once every other month

     –  A summer VBS-like event or camp event planned with the Asst. Administrator

     – Informal meetings with youth during the week with the purpose of relation building, counseling, and prayer

     –  Build up leaders within the church by mentoring, relating to volunteers and accompanying them to training/conferences

     –  Help recommend and teach curriculum in our junior church program

The Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

     –  Bachelor’s Degree or relevant equal experience

     –  Clear fingerprint / background check

     –  Letters of recommendation from previous church leaders

     –  Proof of membership in a Christ-centered church (must join JBC once job has been accepted)

     –  Evidence of biblical knowledge and the ability to communicate this knowledge to our youth

     –  Evidence of familiarity with current social media and other technology platforms

     –  Experience preferred in team building or leadership

     –  Has read and is in agreement with the church statement of faith and constitution (http://www.jbcchurch.org/church-statements-of-faith)

     –  Consistently attends church services and recurring events

     –  Shows a love for God and meets the qualifications for church leadership found in I Tim 3:2-13

     –  Feels called and gifted by God to ministry

     –  Desires to remain gospel-centered and spirit-led

     –  Is relatable and engaging to children, looking to be their shepherd and not their friend

     –  They are honorable and wise in their conduct toward youth

     –  Faithfully handles and teaches the word of God in a way that is clear, meaningful and relevant to youth

     –  Patient and willing to work with parents

     –  A self-motivated and decisive person who takes initiative.

     –  Represents the church and respects its members in a God-honoring way

     –  Committed to working together for the common goal of the church

     –  Seeks to involve as many other people in their ministry with like passions

The Youth Pastor is the primary staff member responsible for programming and pastoral care that encourages spiritual growth in students (grades 6-12) within Pascack Bible Church. This necessitates the mobilization and training of other adults and maturing students to have significant impact in the lives of other students through demonstration of Christ-like character, mentoring and care. The Youth Pastor works under the leadership of the Senior Pastor and in coordination with the other senior leaders of Pascack Bible Church to build a structure of church ministry that encourages a growing devotion to Christ by connecting students not just to a youth group, but to the church as a whole. Ultimately, we are attempting to develop students as life-long disciples of Christ who have a desire for a connection with PBC or another local church where they can further grow as adult disciples who worship God, love one another and serve the world.

The Youth Pastor will be responsible for the following:

Strategic Leadership, Planning and Execution:

  • As a key leader among the pastoral staff, the Youth Pastor will assist in the development and implementation of the church’s strategic goals and vision, being particularly responsible for strategic planning and leadership/staff development for our ministry to students. This will include the following responsibilities:
    1. Provide pastoral care and leadership to students.
    2. Consistently evaluate student ministry programming relative to the PBC’s Vision, Mission, and goals.
    3. Develop, implement, and manage ministry activities which contribute to the achievement of student ministry vision, mission, and goals.
    4. Develop and implement comprehensive and relevant Biblical instruction which contributes to students’ growth as Disciples of Christ.
    5. Occasionally preach to the congregation on a Sunday morning.
    6. Coordinate both discipleship and outreach components of ministry to students, working to implant the value of outreach to students.
    7. Plan and oversee weekly opportunities for instruction, youth small group interaction, recreation, fellowship, outreach, and ministry.
    8. Plan and implement retreats and mission trips.
    9. Develop, implement, and manage small group ministry among students.
    10. Recruit adult volunteers in all areas of student ministry.
    11. Plan and implement special events through the year (e.g., past events have included parent seminars, Christmas parties, beginning/end of year BBQs).
    12. Contribute to the integration of students into all aspects of church life and ministry.

Supervision and Development:

  • The Youth Pastor will serve as the staff manager for all student ministries, reporting to the Senior Pastor.
  • The Youth Pastor will advise the elders on matters related to the full inclusion of students in the ministry of Pascack Bible Church.
  • The Youth Pastor will align student ministries with the overall vision, mission, and goals of the church.
  • Develop and maintain efficient and effective lines of communication with the Senior Pastor and other staff, ministry leaders, and elders.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Pastor, develop measurable annual goals for all student ministries.
  • Develop and lead highly relational adult volunteer teams that will implement all ministries to students, including the purposeful development of students as leaders.
  • Develop and maintain efficient and effective lines of communication with parents of students (e.g., equipping, regular communications regarding events).
  • Develop and maintain efficient and effective lines of communication with students (e.g., encouragement, notifications, reminders).
  • Supervise all interns serving within student ministries (if applicable).

Administration:

  • The Youth Pastor will oversee and execute the administration of the student ministries utilizing appropriate staff, lay leadership, and interns (if applicable).
  • Ensure the functioning of personnel, promotional, facility, and logistical support for student ministries.
  • Maintain and share a personal ministry calendar with the Senior Pastor and other staff.
  • Develop budget recommendation and manage budgetary items for all student ministries, in communication with Senior Pastor and other staff.
  • Schedule all student ministry events and activities in coordination with other church staff in order to strategically support overall church vision and mission.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of church-wide services, events and initiatives as a member of the church staff.

Character, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Must have a burden for the lost, a love for the Church (both local and universal), and a passion for discipling youth.
  • Must know and be able to faithfully teach the Word of God and communicate its truth effectively.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A seminary master’s degree, or plan to pursue, is preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in youth ministry is preferred.
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills; be able to empower others to lead and serve; and work well in a team setting.
