The full-time Youth Pastor works to help students grow as disciples of Jesus and to live out the church’s mission. The Youth Pastor will lead, disciple and grow our youth ministry (grades 6-12) as well as engage and equip adult volunteers to serve our students. There is also opportunity for this position to grow in their ministry calling through preaching, providing pastoral care and leveraging their giftings as interest and opportunity allows.

Job Description

The full-time Youth Pastor, first and foremost, works to help students grow as disciples of Jesus and to live out the church’s mission. They will be passionate about investing in our youth (grades 6-12) and supporting their spiritual development and maturity in Christ. They will work in collaboration with volunteers, ministry teams, and the Church Council. The Youth Pastor will report to the Senior Pastor and work with the rest of the staff in an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Should the Youth Pastor have the desire and gifting – there will be opportunity to preach 6-8 times a year as well as engage in other ministry leadership to further grow their calling and gifts.

Requirements: 

  • Deep, personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is reflected in a God-honoring, high-integrity lifestyle.
  • Must be committed to his/her own spiritual growth, including daily rhythms of prayer and scripture reading.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in theology, religious studies, youth ministry or a related field.
  • Some previous youth experience (either full time or as an intern/resident/volunteer) with a church or in a community setting is preferred.
  • Conduct all business with integrity, confidentiality and in a professional manner.
  • Relational, personable and professional. Able to collaborate with church staff, build relationships with students and parents, and lead volunteers.
  • Capable of managing student social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) as well as ensuring informational updates regarding student ministry are made to our website.
  •  basic updates on our website platform.
  • Willingness to pursue ordination in the Global Methodist Church (if not already ordained).
  • Self-starter who is able to creatively collaborate with volunteer youth leaders to plan, develop, implement and promote comprehensive youth ministries that incorporate opportunities for worship, fellowship, discipleship, service, and evangelism.

Work Schedule: 

This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. Because of weekend and evening responsibilities, the work schedule will remain open to adjustment as approved by the Senior Pastor. In addition to weekly work, this position will be present and engaged on Sunday mornings for worship services and Sunday School as well as lead the Youth Fellowship on Sunday evenings (6 to 8pm).

Our team gathers for weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays. Normally Fridays and Saturdays are days off for pastoral staff.

Compensation & Benefits: 

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting at $55,000+

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Recruits and develops both adult and student leaders. Will work with youth and adult leadership to plan meetings, events, and activities as well as identify long-term vision and areas of ministry improvement.
  • Works with the Director of Children and Family Ministries to establish a cohesive and purposeful transition as youth move from Children’s Ministry to Youth Ministry.
  • Organizes regular service opportunities for youth, intended to both tangibly impact those who are in need as well as provide an environment for experience and growth in the lives of those who serve.
    • These opportunities will include local, regional and international service and missions.
  • Designs and facilitates on-site & off-site events such as day trips, overnight retreats, local activities, etc.
    • Responsible for events that focus on outreach, spiritual formation, and community building.
  • Provides proactive, excellent communication.
    • Responsible for ensuring clear promotion of the Youth Ministry schedule to students and parents through multiple channels.
    • Also, ensures communication with volunteers regarding ministry vision, guidelines, etc.
    • Additionally, the youth pastor will communicate and collaborate with church staff regarding newsletters, bulletins, website updates and other shared church channels.
  • Ensures that all volunteers involved in youth ministry are in compliance with the Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures.
    • The Youth Pastor is also responsible for the management of important medical and parent release forms for various activities, and other important documents related to these ministries and those involved.
  • Manages and administers the Youth Ministry resources and budget wisely.
    • Plan and conduct fund-raising activities to supplement the ministry budget.
  • Works with the Senior Pastor each year in planning, organizing and teaching the Confirmation Class.
  • Attends continuing education events to ensure personal, spiritual and ministry growth, as recommended by Senior Pastor.
  • Participates actively in the life of the church and assists in additional pastoral responsibilities as necessary and appropriate.
