Summary of Purpose
The Youth Pastor, answering a call to the ministry from God, is responsible for leading and nurturing the spiritual growth of the Greencastle Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church (“OUB church”) youth (grades 7-12). While the primary focus is youth, the expectation is a commitment to all ages and a heart to serve the entire OUB family.
This role includes developing and overseeing youth programs, fostering a safe community, and guiding youth in their faith journey. The Youth Pastor will work closely with church leadership, which includes the Pastor, Administrative Board, Youth Commission, parents, and volunteers to create an engaging, Christ-centered environment for students.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Christ, living in accordance with the Word of God.
- Bachelor’s degree (Ministry, Theology, or a related field is preferred).
- Agreement with the United Brethren’s doctrinal beliefs and theological stance.
- Currently licensed as a minister within the United Brethren OR willing to obtain licensure within two years of starting.
- Previous youth ministry experience preferred. This could be from a residency/internship or from a full-time position.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Able to work and collaborate effectively with others (leadership, staff, parents, volunteers, etc.)
- High level of personal integrity, character and credibility
- Compassionate, approachable and relatable to students
- Thorough in their work and responsibilities and wise in their time management and organizational abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
Essential Functions
- Plan, coordinate, and lead the youth programming.
- This includes, but is not limited to: Wednesday night/mid-week youth group (worship, teaching, and small group discussions), occasional social events, Sunday school classes, retreats/conferences/camps, etc.
- Design and implement a comprehensive youth ministry program that includes Bible studies, outreach events, retreats, and mission trips; ensure that the curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with our church’s theological beliefs and values.
- Recruit, train, and oversee youth ministry volunteers, including adult leaders and mentors; provide guidance and support to these volunteers to ensure effective and safe ministry practices.
- Build strong, authentic relationships with students, offering mentorship, support and spiritual guidance.
- Regularly attend and support students at outside activities (i.e., sporting events, plays, graduation, etc.).
- Organize and lead outreach initiatives to engage the youth group in community service and missions; collaborate with other local youth pastors and organizations to create joint events and programs.
- Maintain regular communications with parents, keeping them informed of youth ministry activities and initiatives; maintain youth group social media channels.
- Attend Administrative Board meetings and sit as a voting member.
- Work collaboratively with all OUB church staff, commission personnel, and congregation members on church-wide events and initiatives.
- Faithfully attend and participate in Sunday worship, special services, meetings, church-wide activities, events, etc.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Youth Commission Chair and to the Administrative Board, as directed.
- Maintain and report accurate records of attendance and participation in youth events.
- Manage youth ministry resources (i.e. budget) effectively, with oversight from the Youth Commission, and report on the status of those resources.
- Attend job related conferences, webinars, workshops, and other continuing education opportunities that enhance professional, personal, and spiritual growth.
- Work in conjunction with the Youth Commission to identify and select interns who will assist with the youth ministry program; provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to help them grow as future ministry leaders.
- Promote youth ministry to OUB church AND promote OUB church ministry to the youth group
- Direct meaningful youth led Sunday OUB church worship services.
- Develop and lead an effective youth ministry transition strategy
- Sixth grade entering into the youth group.
- Graduating Seniors moving into our young adult program.
- Keep current on the OUB church Child Abuse Prevention Policy; oversee and foster a safe and respectful environment for all youth.
- Other duties as assigned.

Evaluation
Performance of the Youth Pastor will be evaluated annually by the Senior Pastor, in conjunction with guidance from the Personnel Relations Commission. Informal feedback will occur as needed.
Work Schedule
- This is a Full time position, with a schedule to include working Sundays and evenings (i.e. Wednesday evenings) as directed or as the need arises. Working hours and days-off will be determined in close collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
