Praise Band Director

Introduction
All Saints is a growing Anglican Church in Weddington, NC (a suburb of Charlotte). We are a part of the Anglican Church in North America. On a Sunday we have two services – a 9am service with music led by choir and a piano, and an 11am service led by a praise band. Our worship is Biblical, liturgical, sacramental, and has an openness to the Holy Spirit. With our current praise band director stepping down to focus on his full-time job, we’re looking to appoint the right person to lead our praise band.

Overview
In cooperation with, and under the oversight of the Associate Rector for Youth & Worship, the band director is responsible for planning and leading the church’s gathered musical worship at our 11am service. The band director is delegated the responsibility of recruiting and training volunteer musicians, selecting and arranging the songs used in congregational worship, directing and encouraging the congregation in their singing, and setting an example of sincere spiritual worship. Therefore, your beliefs need to be in sympathy with Anglican convictions as expressed in the Jerusalem Declaration.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead the church’s gathered musical worship at our 11am service.
  • Collaborate with the choir director to plan special services (e.g. Christmas, Easter).
  • Recruit volunteer musicians from the congregation to participate in the band.
  • Create and maintain a schedule for volunteer musicians.
  • Curate a repertoire of congregational songs that are biblical, singable, and beautiful, maintaining a well-organized song database and record of historical song usage, and ensuring that the terms and conditions of all relevant licenses and copyrights are honored.
  • Train and encourage the congregation to develop their skill in singing together.
  • Select and arrange the songs to be used in gathered worship.
  • Rehearse the band in preparation for upcoming worship services.
  • Work together with our professional AV team leader to ensure our music is as beautiful as it can be.

Requirements

  • There’s a significant degree of flexibility about this role. This role is hourly, compensated for up to 20 hours per week, though most weeks will require 10-15 hours. There’s significant opportunity to shape this role according to your situation and gifts.
  • You are required to lead the music for all of the principal feasts and fasts of the church year. On regular Sundays, you may occasionally delegate the role of leading worship to another highly trained volunteer.

How to Apply

Please send a resume and a cover letter briefly outlining your philosophy of worship to [email protected], as well as a recording of you singing and playing your principal instrument. For an informal conversation about the role, contact Wesley Kennedy, Associate Rector for Youth & Worship, at (865) 320-4150 or [email protected].
