Solo Pastor

The First Baptist Church of Bedford, MA is prayerfully seeking a part-time, solo Pastor (20 hours/week) to give primary oversight to discipleship and ministry operations. We are a local church in Bedford, celebrating our 70th anniversary this year. Our mission is, “Becoming and producing disciples of Christ”.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Discipleship: Give primary oversight to discipleship strategies, including small groups, youth ministry, and collaborating to organize training courses.
  • Operations: Oversee ministry operations by ensuring the church and all ministries remain aligned with our mission and vision, and by managing church rhythms and transitions throughout the year.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Act as a catalyst in these areas, working in coordination with the Ministry Team, the Family Ministry Director, the deacons, the church administrator, and others.
    Preaching & Teaching: Preach Sunday mornings during the 10 am service. Teach a weekly adult class, following the worship service. Special services will require preaching during Lent and Advent
  • Pastoral Care: Share in general pastoral care for the flock alongside the Deacon’s team.
  • Additional Ministry: Serve in additional ways according to your unique gifting, passions, and bandwidth, such as pastoral counseling.

Accountability

  • Conducts ministry under the direction of, and is accountable to the Ministry Team.
  • Regularly reports ministry progress and challenges  collaborating on long-term strategies for ministry growth.
  • Receive an annual evaluation based on the job description from the Pastoral Care Committee to provide support and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Completion of some formal theological education (Bachelor’s s in Bible, MDiv, etc.) with a willingness to obtain an MDiv within an 18-24 month period.
  • Willingness to pursue ordination within TABCOM, to be completed within three years of the start date.
  • Ability to whole-heartedly affirm the FBC Covenant .
  • Ability to whole-heartedly affirm FBCB member Covenant and our Church Affirmations.
  • Theological, philosophical, and relational compatibility with The First Baptist Church of Bedford.
  • A clear testimony of faith in the Person and work of Jesus Christ.
  • A deep love for and calling towards pastoral ministry, possessing a pastoral heart with the skills of a solo settled pastor.
  • Exemplifies godly character, spiritual discipline, and leadership abilities in alignment with the biblical Elder qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, Ephesians 4:11-16, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
  • Ability to maintain a healthy balance between ministry and family responsibilities.
  • Ability to pass a full criminal background and credit check.
  • Organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Google Applications, social media, and Microsoft Office.
  • A team player who demonstrates humility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to mediate conflict consistently with biblical principles.Clearly demonstrated ability to preach and teach God’s Word.
  • Willingness to submit to an 18-month probationary period, meeting with the Pastoral Council.
