Chaplain

The Chaplain fulfills assigned ministry and program responsibilities in a variety of locations – the detention center, the correctional center, churches, and the community at large. The detention center and the correctional center in Winston-Salem are the main locations of service. The Chaplain provides direct services to inmates, institutional staff, and their families.

The four areas of ministry include: pastoral support, volunteers, administration, and community relations.

Specific acts of ministry include counseling, planning programs, supervising volunteers, and promoting community awareness. The Chaplain fulfills these and other assigned responsibilities under the direction of the Senior Chaplain, the Personnel Committee, and the Board of Directors.

How to Apply

The Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministries is extending a call for a Chaplain. The person will have chaplaincy
responsibilities in the detention center (jail) and the correctional center (prison). Other duties include
leading and overseeing programs in the correctional center, area churches, and the local community.
The Chaplain will provide ministry to the inmates, institutional staff and families of inmates. Duties are
in four categories:
1. Direct ministry (counseling, teaching, and preaching)
2. Planning and leading programs
3. Administration (recruiting & supervising volunteers)
4. Community Relations (developing community support)
Applicants must to possess a sound theology while demonstrating a heart for practical Christian
ministry. The candidate should exhibit strong organizational skills and initiative. The below requirements
are a necessity for the position.
• Graduate of an accredited 4 year college or university
• Graduate from an (ATS) accredited school of theology or divinity with minimum of Masters of
Divinity
• Ordained or community faith affiliated
• In good standing with faith group
• CPE: Preferred one unit completed, with potential to acquire additional units
